A cracked lot or a road that’s failing before its time isn’t just an eyesore, it’s a liability. We handle grading, paving, and everything underneath it with one crew, one contract, and 27 years of results.
Most paving problems don’t start with the asphalt itself, they start with poor grading, weak subgrade, or drainage that was never accounted for. Heyl Construction builds the base right before a single truckload of asphalt shows up, which is why our lots and roads hold up through freeze-thaw cycles instead of cracking apart after one winter. We work with commercial developers, municipalities, and property owners across western Colorado who need a contractor that owns the whole process, from earthwork to the final compaction pass.
GPS-Guided Grading. Precision base work every time, one contract for the full scope, CDOT-approved on public infrastructure.

Years on the
Western Slope
Heyl Construction has been based in Silt, Colorado since the beginning. For more than two decades we’ve done civil work up and down the western slope, from Glenwood Springs to Aspen and Vail to Parachute, this isn’t a market we moved into, it’s home, and we know it well.
We deliver a quality civil construction product at a price that makes sense, and we do what we say we’re going to do: accurate bids, realistic timelines, and a GPS-guided Trimble fleet that keeps grading and excavation precise. From a 42-acre mixed-use development with a water ski lake and CDOT improvements to a half-mile private road paved under budget and ahead of schedule, we deliver at every scale across this region.
From grading to the final compaction pass, here’s what’s in scope.
Commercial and retail lots that can handle daily traffic without rutting or pooling water. We grade for proper drainage before we pave, so you’re not dealing with standing water in year one.
Residential and commercial driveways built to last through Colorado winters. Clean edges, proper compaction, no shortcuts on base prep.
New road construction and resurfacing for private roads, subdivisions, and public infrastructure. Built to the same standard whether it’s a half-mile private drive or a municipal project.
The step most paving contractors skip or subcontract out. We handle it in-house with GPS-guided equipment, which is the biggest factor in how long your pavement actually lasts.
Pothole repair, crack sealing, and section replacement for pavement that’s still salvageable. We’ll tell you honestly if patching makes sense or if you’re better off repaving.
Public roads and infrastructure projects that require a CDOT-approved contractor. We’re bonded, licensed, and set up to meet municipal specs from bid to final inspection.
Grading, subgrade prep, paving, and finishing, all handled by one crew under one contract.
Deep local knowledge of Colorado’s terrain, soil conditions, seasonal freeze windows, and utility requirements. We’ve worked this corridor for decades and know what it takes to deliver here.
Trimble machine-control equipment means accurate cuts and fills on every project. Less rework. Tighter tolerances. Better finished grades.
Excavation, grading, underground utilities, road construction, paving, and demo, all handled under one contract by one crew. No coordination headaches between subs. No finger-pointing when something slips.
Qualified for public road and municipal infrastructure projects. If your project touches a public right-of-way or requires state certification, we have the credentials to handle it.
We don’t low-ball to win work and make it up in change orders. Our estimates are detailed and our timelines are realistic. If something changes on site, you hear about it early, not at invoice time.
Tandem dumps, side dumps, end dumps, lowboy, and GPS-guided grading equipment, all in-house. We control the schedule, not a third-party operator.
No vague timelines, no scope-creep surprises. Here’s how a paving project moves with Heyl from first contact to project closeout.
We walk the site, assess drainage and subgrade condition, and give you an accurate bid.
GPS-guided equipment shapes the base to spec before any asphalt is ordered.
Asphalt is laid and compacted in the correct lifts for long-term durability.
Edges, transitions, and striping (where applicable) are completed to spec.
We walk the finished project with you before we call it done.
The Tree Farm PUD is a 42-acre mixed-use development in the Roaring Fork Valley with a water ski lake and extensive CDOT improvements. When we needed an experienced civil contractor to handle all the infrastructure, including a lift station adjacent to the lake, Heyl won our trust and our business. They’ve been a pleasure to work with, and I’d recommend them for any civil construction needs.
CFO, Geronimo Ventures LLC
They paved our half-mile stretch of private road, had to deal with ten contrary homeowners, and they did a great job. I was one of the few who didn’t want the road paved, but they were very professional, worked with us as much as possible on the disruption, came in under budget, and finished quicker than planned. Absolutely five stars.

Yes. Heyl Construction is licensed and bonded with the State of Colorado, and we’re also CDOT-approved for public infrastructure work.
Most driveway and small lot projects wrap up in a few days once grading is complete. Larger municipal or road projects depend on scope and are outlined in your proposal.
Patching addresses isolated damage on pavement that’s still structurally sound. If the subgrade has failed or damage is widespread, repaving is usually the more cost-effective long-term fix. We’ll tell you honestly which one your project needs.
