One contractor handles excavation, grading, utilities, and paving from raw land to build-ready.
Heyl Construction handles commercial and public works site development across western Colorado, from initial clearing to the last lift of asphalt. Developers, general contractors, and municipal project managers hire us when they need excavation, grading, utility installation, and paving delivered by one crew under one contract. No handoffs. No finger-pointing when a subcontractor falls behind schedule. Just a GPS-guided fleet and 27 years of local terrain knowledge working toward the same deadline.
One Contract, One Crew. Excavation, grading, utilities, and paving delivered under a single scope, on a single schedule.
One Contract, One Crew Clearing, excavation, grading, utilities, and paving under a single scope, no coordination gaps between subs.
GPS-Guided Precision Trimble machine-control grading gets your pad, road base, or lot to spec on the first pass.
On Schedule, Before Freeze Timelines built around the western slope's freeze window, not around a best-case guess.

Years on the
Western Slope
Heyl Construction has been based in Silt, Colorado since the beginning. For more than two decades we’ve done civil work up and down the western slope, from Glenwood Springs to Aspen and Vail to Parachute, this isn’t a market we moved into, it’s home, and we know it well.
We deliver a quality civil construction product at a price that makes sense, and we do what we say we’re going to do: accurate bids, realistic timelines, and a GPS-guided Trimble fleet that keeps grading and excavation precise. From a 42-acre mixed-use development with a water ski lake and CDOT improvements to a half-mile private road paved under budget and ahead of schedule, we deliver at every scale across this region.
From the first clearing pass to a build-ready pad, here’s what’s in scope.
Site prep starts with a clean slate. We clear vegetation, remove existing structures, and haul off debris so your project can move straight into earthwork without delay.
Bulk excavation and balanced cut-and-fill work, sized for subdivisions, commercial pads, and large public works projects. Our own fleet keeps material moving without waiting on a rental yard.
GPS-guided grading gets your pad, road base, or parking lot to spec on the first pass, with tighter tolerances and less rework than a hand-staked crew.
Silt fence, sediment basins, and drainage work designed to keep your site compliant through every phase of construction, not just at final inspection.
Water, sewer, and storm line installation coordinated with grading and paving, so trenching happens once instead of tearing up finished work later.
Subgrade, base course, and paving for private roads, access drives, and public right-of-way improvements, built to CDOT standard where the project calls for it.
From raw land to a build-ready site, we handle the entire civil scope under one contract, so you’re not managing six different subs on one project.
Deep local knowledge of Colorado’s terrain, soil conditions, seasonal freeze windows, and utility requirements. We’ve worked this corridor for decades and know what it takes to deliver here.
Trimble machine-control equipment means accurate cuts and fills on every project. Less rework. Tighter tolerances. Better finished grades.
Excavation, grading, underground utilities, road construction, paving, and demo, all handled under one contract by one crew. No coordination headaches between subs. No finger-pointing when something slips.
Qualified for public road and municipal infrastructure projects. If your project touches a public right-of-way or requires state certification, we have the credentials to handle it.
We don’t low-ball to win work and make it up in change orders. Our estimates are detailed and our timelines are realistic. If something changes on site, you hear about it early, not at invoice time.
Tandem dumps, side dumps, end dumps, lowboy, and GPS-guided grading equipment, all in-house. We control the schedule, not a third-party operator.
A detailed bid, a realistic schedule, and a build-ready site handed off on time.
We walk the property, review soil and drainage conditions, and flag anything that could affect scope before we ever put a number on paper.
You get a line-item bid, not a rough estimate, along with a realistic schedule that accounts for the western slope’s freeze window and permitting timelines.
We coordinate any CDOT or municipal permitting the project requires, then move the fleet and crew on site once approvals and utility locates are in hand.
GPS-guided equipment handles clearing, cut-and-fill, subgrade prep, and utility trenching in the sequence that keeps rework off the schedule.
We walk the finished site with you against the original scope, close out any punch list items, and hand off a build-ready pad or right-of-way.
The Tree Farm PUD is a 42-acre mixed-use development in the Roaring Fork Valley with a water ski lake and extensive CDOT improvements. When we needed an experienced civil contractor to handle all the infrastructure, including a lift station adjacent to the lake, Heyl won our trust and our business. They’ve been a pleasure to work with, and I’d recommend them for any civil construction needs.
CFO, Geronimo Ventures LLC
They paved our half-mile stretch of private road, had to deal with ten contrary homeowners, and they did a great job. I was one of the few who didn’t want the road paved, but they were very professional, worked with us as much as possible on the disruption, came in under budget, and finished quicker than planned. Absolutely five stars.

Site development covers everything between raw land and a build-ready site: clearing and demolition, mass excavation, grading and subgrade prep, erosion control, utility installation, and often road or paving work. Heyl Construction handles all of it under one contract instead of splitting it across separate subcontractors.
Cost depends on acreage, soil conditions, utility scope, and whether the project requires CDOT-standard road work. We provide a detailed, line-item bid after walking the site, and pricing reflects current material and fuel costs.
Yes. We’re licensed and bonded in the State of Colorado and approved by CDOT for public road and municipal infrastructure work, which matters if your project touches a right-of-way or requires state certification.
Grading and earthwork need to wrap before the ground freezes, so most projects start in spring or early summer. If your timeline is tight, tell us up front. We plan the schedule around the freeze window, not the other way around.
A commercial pad or subdivision phase usually runs several weeks to a few months, depending on acreage and utility scope. We give you a realistic timeline in the bid, not just a start date.
Our own crew and fleet handle clearing, excavation, grading, and hauling in-house. That means one point of contact and one schedule, not five subcontractors you have to coordinate yourself.
Whether it’s a commercial pad, a subdivision, or a public works bid, get a detailed proposal before you commit to a start date.
